Guest Post from Katie Mettner about Struggles

The last time I was in Duluth I was staying at my brother’s apartment. He lives in an upstairs apartment and there is a small deck that overlooks the lake. It was about midnight and I was looking out the patio doors as the cold winter wind whipped the trees around and blew snow in all directions. On the drive up from my home that day I had been asking “why am I writing these stories Lord?” I was at a place of disillusion and felt like I was spinning my wheels, wasting my time or maybe just frustrated by the way the book industry has gone, but He never really gave me an answer. As I sat there looking out the patio door I got one.
What He told me was “You see all those lights out there? Those are lights in houses of people who have a story to tell and it’s your job to tell it.”
I sat for a bit and said, “And you’re okay with me telling stories about people who are mad at you and people who question if you even exist?”

He responded with, “I have no disillusions, Katie. I know most of my children, at some point in their lives, have those feelings. Some of them find their way back to me and some don’t. I’ve given you the tools to help more find the light, but I can’t write them for you. That is your journey.”
I kinda sighed a little then, and leaned my head against the cold glass. A light snapped on in the house directly in my line of sight, and I saw the silhouette of a woman walking into a room. Even though I couldn’t see what she was doing, my imagination had some ideas. Maybe she was going to pick up her crying baby, help her sick husband, mother, or sister or maybe she couldn’t sleep and was finding a book to read. Maybe it was a story that at this moment she needed to read, so she could get up in the morning and keep going with what her life was. I crawled back to my bed and slid beneath the blankets, laying my head on my pillow and closing my eyes, a little smile tipping my lips. Well played, Lord. Well played.

The Northern Lights series is my newest Christian Romance series. It’s a spinoff from my first series, The Sugar Series, and features characters from all over the Northern Minnesota region. As I wrote the Sugar books many, many people told me how much they enjoyed reading about the area. I loved writing Sugar, but when you are writing about one character it gets harder and harder to tell the stories I want to tell. So, with that in mind I introduced Grant Harris in the last Sugar book and this is his story. I hope that you enjoy reading the stories I create about everyday people doing extraordinary things. Everyday people, who even during the dark times of their lives, believe in the light that awaits them.

Without further ado…….

Author Bio
I grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and moved to the Northwoods as a young adult where I now reside with my husband and three children. My love affair with Lake Superior began when I met my husband, Dwayne, and he drove me across the bridge one snowy November day with my nose pressed up against the glass. It was in that moment the scene was set for my breakout novel!

As a young adult I enjoyed ballroom dancing and spent many hours on the dance floor. After an injury sidelined me for 10 years I am finally able to waltz again! My stories are a reflection of my love for family intricately woven with life experience. When the gales of November blow early you can find me at the computer with a cup of joe, listening to Michael Bublé and working on Sugar's next adventure
