Forever's Promise - Joya Fields/ Thriller Thursday

Kindle
Nook
Caught in the crossfire, and forced to face their possible impending deaths when a disgruntled employee opens fire at their office, co-workers Shelby and Russ make a deal while hiding under a desk: if Russ dies, she’ll take care of his six year-old daughter Annabelle, if Shelby dies, he’ll look after her terminally ill father.
Annabelle needs a mom; Shelby’s dad will die happy if she marries. Once they escape their situation, a marriage of convenience seems like the perfect answer, and they hold a quick wedding, intending a life of separate bedrooms and shared responsibilities, with friendship and companionship, but not love.

As they spend more time together, their bond becomes more than either bargained for. But when misfortune strikes, their newfound love is put to the test.

The steady beat of percussion traveled down the steps.
In spite of Shelby’s headache and the guilt she’d experienced since arranging for the sale of her ring, she smiled and headed up the steps. Her head already hurt as much as it could. Why not push it to the limit and get a close up of Russ’s drum performance?
She crested the top stair on the third floor. The steady beat thrummed her heart, and she felt it all the way through her body. A release of sorts. A distraction.
Leaning against the doorframe, she took in Russ’s closed eyes and bare chest as he hit the drums and shook his head along with the beat.
Damn. Her head stopped pounding, probably because her blood drained to her feet. Her heart raced. His muscular arms rippled as they sped from drum to drum. His neck corded. Sweat glistened on his muscular chest. Is this what he looks like during sex?
What? Oh holy shit. She would not go there.
He winced as if in pain, the drum sticks froze mid-air, and he opened his eyes. “Hey. Didn’t know you were home.” He stood, and her mouth went dry as her gaze traveled to the V of hair that disappeared into his jeans. He yanked his gray T-shirt from the nearby music stand and stretched it over his head and past his taut abs.
She blinked and finally found her voice. “Isn’t your arm supposed to be in a sling?” Take your shirt off again. She shifted from one foot to the other to release the tension inside her.

Forever's Promise is a wonderful romantic suspense.  Shelby and Russ are thrown into a life threatening situation and promise to take care of the other's loved one if anything happens to the other.  Shelby and Russ decide to get married so they have support for each other's loved ones.  As they slowly rekindle their friendship they start falling for each other.  Their pasts create hesitation for letting go and falling completely.  Shelby is a very likable character, she was sweet and supportive though at times naive.  Russ, he has major trust issues but he's one enjoyable male lead.  His love for his daughter will leave you swooning.  Forever's Promise is a romance about life, trust and hope.
I give Forever's Promise...
