As for Bearsfield, Wisconsin, well, as you know I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but there is no town called Bearsfield. However, the town where that old house sat on South Second Street was in the home of the Bears, so I decided to make the mascot for the real school district the name of the town. I wanted to have some fictional license with it, but wanted people from the area who read the book to smile when they put two and two together.
I asked Katie how she came up with the idea for White Sheets & Rosy Cheeks and her response is below.
That's a great question, Tobi! I saw a writing prompt about writing a romance with a ghost who either brings two people together or keeps them apart. It made me think back to a time when my daughter was about two, so nearly thirteen years ago now, and we lived in a house in a small town where my husband taught. The house in White Sheets, is indeed an exact replica to the house there, right down to the squirrel in the basement (you're gonna wanna read this book, I'm telling you!). Along with that old house came a paranormal visitor that only my daughter could interact with. She called him Ghostie and they were 'friends' for many months. I don't want to ruin all the fun surprises in the book but suffice it to say, if it's an interaction between Ghostie and Molly, chances are good, it's a real life event.
