The town of Charm had a tragedy that effected the whole community.  Darla and Lukas both lost their fathers.  The community blames Darla's father and Lukas' father owned the mill that the accident happened at.  

I love Lukas' loyalty to Darla and his family.  Though he's forgiven what happened his family isn't quite ready.  He is fun and flirty with Darla even though he's still discovering his true feelings for her.  As much as Darla has loved Lukas most of her life, she's afraid if she renews their friendship it will effect his standing in the community.  Darla has been bearing the weight of her father's accident because certain community members hold the blame over her head.  

Hannah has a story woven into Lukas and Darla's story. At first I wondered why, but as the story went on and she interacted with the various other characters and her own side characters she stole my heart and I'm dying to find out what happens next for her.  

Shelley Shepard Gray has started a new world that I didn't want to leave and left me ready for the next book in the series.  A Son's Vow is a story of community, survival, hope and true love.
