Excerpt

Meet Leesie:

from Leesie's Most Private Chapbook, Prologue, Taken by Storm, "What does it Matter?"

What does it matter if
another jock pinches me
as I walk down the hall to Physics
and high fives Troy, celebrating
like he just scored
the season’s first touchdown?

As I stalk past Troy,
architect of my torture,
I’m frozen, a block of ice—
not a single drop melts.

All hail the Mormon Ice Queen.

What does it matter?

I know the commandment,
but I don’t even consider
turning the other cheek.

And, yes, it hurts, but
life without pain
isn’t much of a test.

This feeling can’t be lonely—
I’m not alone.

I walk with His hand on my shoulder,
His voice whispering in my soul,
His love soaring in my heart,
His suffering
my
salvation.

What else could possibly matter?

Review: The Way You Look Tonight by Claire Matthews

The Way You Look TonightGoodreads Synopsis  (Since this is a short story I didn't want to risk giving anything away)
When Jordan Buckley's old high school friend, Aiden Spencer, returns to their home town of Cincinnati, she's concerned that his obvious interest in her sister Maggie could derail Maggie's upcoming wedding, and endanger an upcoming merger involving her family's business.

But when Jordan finds herself falling for Aiden's charms, she must unravel the web that connects her love life, her family life, and her professional aspirations.

How Distracted Did I Get?
The Way You look tonight is a cute short story I think you will enjoy.  With the stress of being a female in a males world working and a sister that gets engaged every time Jordan turns around it's a frustrating life sometimes.  When Aiden pops back in her life she has a
distraction.I really did want to beat some sense into her
sisters little world though.

I read The Way You Look tonight in about 30-40 minutes with a few distractions from my boys. It's a perfect lunch break read.

First thoughts immediately after
I want more.  I like to know for sure characters get married etc... I would definitely buy a sequel if Ms. Matthews decided to write one.

How many baskets?

Blog Tour Excerpt and Review Freefall by Susan Rae

Romantic Suspense
Title: Freefall
Author: Susan Rae

Date Published: June 22, 2012

Synopsis:

Freak accident, or attempted murder? Kate needs answers to her brother’s plane crash,
but can she trust undercover DEA agent “Spike” Larsen to deliver them?

Kate Reynolds’s quest to unravel the mystery of her brother’s plane crash throws her into
the turbulent wake of suave pilot/mechanic Everett Larsen. His gray gaze ignites in her a
passion as powerful as a jet stream, but it also sparks a memory—one she can’t quite reel
in. A bitter divorce has taught her to trust no man, so how can she trust Larsen?

Drawn by a cryptic message Keith left on his answering machine, Everett “Spike” Larsen
flies to Milwaukee for answers, but he is unprepared for the torrent of emotion he feels
when he sees Kate—after his wife’s death, he thought himself no longer capable of such
emotion. He is afraid to give into his feelings for Kate—afraid to love again. But when
Kate insists on helping out at her brother’s aircraft repair shop and gets too close to the
truth, he is even more afraid to lose her.

freefall by Susan Rae:  Excerpts
The pilot gazed off into the clear blue Midwestern sky for a final safety
check to make sure no planes were coming in. Satisfied all was clear, he
thrust the throttles forward.
“Okay baby, here we go!”
The plane’s powerful engines roared. The twin-engine Comanche started
to roll, slowly at first, and then quickly gained momentum. The pilot’s blood
raced as the ground flew past him. An excitement he found nowhere else coursed
through his veins. He pulled back on the column, knew the moment the wheels
left the ground, and smiled in wonder — no matter how many times he did this,
the rush was always the same.
The plane soared up past the terminal, up over the hangars and the landlocked
cars in the parking lot below. As the Comanche gained altitude, the pilot
marveled at the sleek phenomenon of speed slowing down.
Then all hell broke loose…

Her high heels beat a steady tattoo across the tile floor as she made her
way toward the sign that read “Surgical Intensive Care”…
“Excuse me,” she said, her voice sounding amazingly calm despite the butterflies
that swept and dove in her stomach. “I’m Kate Reynolds. I’m here to
see my brother.”
The nurse glanced up and then spoke to another nurse who was in conversation
with a man who stood just a few feet from Kate. “Julie, the sister’s here.”
Kate looked over to them. Almost as one, they turned to gaze at her. Both
seemed to hesitate, and then the nurse smiled — but her eyes took on a sympathetic
cast. Kate’s heart skipped a beat.
“My brother, Keith…is he…?” Her words trailed off, and she swallowed,
unable to voice her greatest fear. The trip from San Francisco to Milwaukee had
taken a long, grueling, and quite turbulent seven hours. During her layover in
Denver, she’d checked in with the hospital. Keith was in surgery, and although
his condition was grave, he was still alive — then.
“Your brother is holding his own, Miss Reynolds,” the nurse assured her.
“At least for now.”
Kate’s knees began to buckle. She hadn’t realized until now that she’d been
holding her breath.
The man reached for her, grabbed her arm, steadied her.
She stared down at his hand, strong and masculine. She was stunned by his
touch, stunned by her own weakness. This weakness wasn’t like her. It was just
that it was all so much like that other time — the time her parents had crashed
in their experimental plane. She was nine. Her parents had died. Then, just a
few years ago, she’d thought she’d lost Keith, too.
Later…
Everett Larsen stepped up to the glass partition, careful not to draw attention
to himself. Glancing at the monitor, he studied it briefly and then allowed
his gaze to settle on the woman seated beside the bed.
So this was Keith’s little sister, he thought. He knew he shouldn’t have
allowed himself to come face-to-face with her earlier. It was a mistake. Still,
despite the shell-shocked look in those blue eyes, there was no denying the fact
that Kate Reynolds had blossomed into one helluva woman.
His cell phone vibrated at his side. Cell phones weren’t allowed in this part
of the hospital — he should have turned it off. He glanced at the incoming
number. He’d make it short.
“Larsen here,” he said quietly.
He listened to the guy on the other end for a few seconds.
“Great. You’ll let me know the minute you find something.”
Again he listened.
“Right. Thanks.”
Returning the phone to its holster, he turned back to the room. This time,
it was Keith he studied. Just what had Keith been up to?

First Thoughts After…

Great book!  I’d like to learn more after the book of the lives of the characters in the story.
How Distracted Did I Get?
Kate receives a phone call to come home immediately it’s her brother, Keith…  She knows he was in an accident and grabs a first plane out of San Francisco.
Everett receives a mysterious message for help from Keith and by the time he receives it Keith has already been in the accident.
As Kate’s and Everett’s lives collide they have to prove her brother innocent in a scandal and come out alive.  The question is will their hearts remain in tact?
Kate is a strong, hard headed soft hearted girl who will fight for her brother to the end.
Everett Mr. Handsome ( I wonder who would play him and his grey eyes?)  Is loyal and faithful to the end.
How Many Baskets??
This story has you guessing throughout the book.  The characters are complex and well written.
I give Freefall
4 baskets!!!!!!

Author Bio
I write, basically, because I just can’t help myself. I can't resist the challenge of taking
the intriguing characters and storylines that pop into my head and fleshing them out into
compelling manuscripts. Romantic suspense is a natural to me, because it allows me to combine
my love of a good mystery with a passionate love story. It also lets me express my appreciation
for the outdoors in the settings which I recreate on the page.

My first novel, heartbeats, is a story of romance and danger set against the background
of busy Chicago and the quiet, rural cornfields of northern Illinois. heartbeats has garnered
numerous awards, including RWA Golden Heart Finalist for Best Romantic Suspense Novel and
Best First Book by First Coast Romance Writers.

In freefall, my second novel, danger and suspense are juxtaposed against the tranquil
valley of Sylvan Lake (fictitious) in the Kettle Moraine Forest and the sun-dappled waters of
Door County, Wisconsin.

When I’m not sketching characters or working out plot problems, you might find me
on the golf course working on my handicap. I also enjoy traveling around the country seeking
out new settings for my novels with my husband and my empty nest puppies, Ginger and
Nikute.

Review: Sins of Angels by Linda Poitevin

Goodreads Synopsis
When homicide detective Alexandra Jarvis is assigned a new partner in Aramael, a Guardian Angel who doubles as a hit man, they have only one thing in common: a fallen angel hell-bent on triggering the apocalypse. Now they have no choice but to work together-relentlessly, fearlessly, intimately. Because only they can stop the rogue angel from ushering in the end of days.

First Thoughts After
I have so many questions!  I want more I know there is more to who Alex is!  What about Seth?  Is there a love triangle brewing and hoping the “bad” guy gets taken down!!!

How Distracted Did I Get???
Alex is one tough cookie!  She’s been through h-e- double hockey sticks and back!  As a homicide detective and issues from her past she sees things in the serial killer's killings she works on differently than other cops.
Trent is her new partner but there’s more to him than that, he’s a power a certain kind of angel who hunts the fallen, but in this hunt there’s complications.  One hot angel (Who would you cast Linda?) who is to save the lives of many from the fallen.
How Many Baskets?
Oh man, Sins of Angels is a get you thinking novel!  It will draw you in and not let you go until the last page, not even then since I’ve been harassing Linda since this morning when I still had 25% left of the book to read!  Poor, poor Linda……. (7/3/12) The story is riveting and wonderfully written.  If you like stories about the ONE, angels fallen and not and a little thrilling and a lot of suspense this is a definite must read for you!  Grab it up but beware, make sure it’s a day when you don’t have much to do!
I give Sins of Angels.,…

Review: Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis

Goodreads Synopsis
Jaque Pierce was just an ordinary 17 year old girl getting ready to start her senior year in high school in Coldspring, Texas. When a mysterious foreign exchange student from Romania moves in across the street, Jacque and her two best friends, Sally and Jen, don't realize the last two weeks of their summer was going to get a lot more interesting. From the moment Jacque sets eyes on Fane she feels an instant connection, a pull like a moth to a flame. Little does she know that the flame she is drawn to is actually a Canis lupis, werewolf, and she just happens to be his mate; the other half of his soul. The problem is Fane is not the only wolf in Coldspring, Texas. Just as Fane and Jacque are getting to know each other, another wolf steps out to try and claim Jacque as his mate. Fane will now have to fight for the right to complete the mating bond, something that is his right by birth but is being denied him by a crazed Alpha. Will the love Fane has for Jacque be enough to give him the strength to defeat his enemy, will Jacque accept that she is Fane's mate and complete the bond between them?

First Thoughts After
I am ready for the next book.  This was fascinating and I wasn’t ready for The Prince of Wolves to end!
How Distracted Did I Get?
Jacque is your everyday teenage girl with 2 bffs she shares everything with, even when she is hearing a voice in her head.  She is strong and feisty and a girl with flaws but she’s a great leading character.  Fane is sexy and insecure and an Alpha that every girl would drool over.  They instantly are attracted to each other but will their instant romance remain happily ever after?
I have never laughed so hard at a Paranormal YA Romance!  Even when you are stressed out with dire situations you still end up laughing a couple paragraphs later!
How Many Baskets?
Prince of Wolves is an intriguing story of true love that will hopefully stand the test of time.  I will have to pick up the following books with my birthday gift cards.
Ms. Loftis has quite a sense of humor that kept me laughing almost the entire book.  If you like paranormal romance that has great humor this is for your TBR list.
I gave Prince of Wolves

Blog Tour: The Flower Bowl Spell by Olivia Boler

THE FLOWER BOWL SPELL
by Olivia Boler

Blurb:

Journalist Memphis Zhang isn’t ashamed of her Wiccan upbringing—in fact, she’s proud to be one of a few Chinese American witches in San Francisco, and maybe the world. Unlike the well-meaning but basically powerless Wiccans in her disbanded coven, Memphis can see fairies, read auras, and cast spells that actually work—even though she concocts them with ingredients like Nutella and antiperspirant. Yet after a friend she tries to protect is brutally killed, Memphis, full of guilt, abandons magick to lead a “normal” life.

The appearance, however, of her dead friend’s attractive rock star brother—as well as a fairy in a subway tunnel—suggest that magick is not done with her. Reluctantly, Memphis finds herself dragged back into the world of urban magick, trying to stop a power-hungry witch from using the dangerous Flower Bowl Spell and killing the people Memphis loves—and maybe even Memphis herself.

Praise for THE FLOWER BOWL SPELL:

"Olivia Boler's The Flower Bowl Spell is a genre-bending ride with sexy rock stars, Californian witches, children with potentially otherworldly gifts, and the occasional fairy. But it is also a story of identity, of the sometimes warring facets that make and shape a human being. Beautifully written, witty, and brimming with both ordinary and fantastical life, The Flower Bowl Spell will charm readers everywhere." -- Siobhan Fallon, author of You Know When the Men Are Gone

Author Bio

Olivia Boler is the author of two novels, YEAR OF THE SMOKE GIRL and THE FLOWER BOWL SPELL. Poet Gary Snyder described SMOKE GIRL as a "dense weave in the cross-cultural multi-racial world of complex, educated hip contemporary coast-to-coast America...It is a fine first novel, rich in paradox and detail."

A freelance writer who received her master's degree in creative writing from UC Davis, Boler has published short stories in the Asian American Women Artists Association (AAWAA) anthology Cheers to Muses, the literary journal MARY, and The Lyon Review, among others. She lives in San Francisco with her family. To find out about her latest work, visit http://oliviaboler.com

Please enjoy the interview and then enter to win!!!!

<3Tobi

Hello Alexa!  Thanks so much for doing an interview!!!
We can start with the more serious then move to the fun shortly.

What inspired you to start writing?
For me, writing is more of a passion than an inspiration.  It's something I have to do.

Who are the authors who inspired you?
I was inspired to self-publish by indie authors like Theresa Ragan and John Locke.  In the romantic suspense genre, I love the writings of Allison Brennan, Laura Griffin, Karen Robards, Christy Reece, and Catherine Mann.

What lead you to the idea of the Deadly Trilogy?  They are amazing and impossible to put down once you start.
I wanted to create a romantic suspense trilogy in a rural setting (in Indiana) using everyday characters involved in extraordinary circumstances.  You won't find princes or billionaires in my books, but you will find characters with interesting personalities, unique wants and needs, passion and sense of humor.  I hope the Deadly Trilogy books appeal to romance and romantic suspense readers who like spunky, intelligent heroines and sizzling hot heroes with hearts of gold.

After the final book, Deadly Relations, in the Deadly Trilogy comes out what do you plan on writing next?
What I am hearing from readers (loud and clear) is that they want me to continue the Deadly Trilogy in a series adding relationships and adventures, so that is exactly what I am going to do.  One thing I've promised myself from the beginning is to stay close to my readers and listen to them.
You just made my day!  I can't wait!

ON TO THE FUN! <3
If your passport could have 3 stamps what would they be?
 Italy, Ireland, and Australia.

If your books were to become movies who would star?
You'd think this question would be a lot easier to answer than it is.  But here goes.
For Deadly Offerings, I'd have Evan Rachel Wood play Anne and Colin Egglesfield play Michael.
For Deadly Deception, Charlize Theron would play Frankie and Joe Manganiello would portray Lane.
What office supply can’t you resist buying even though you have plenty?
Post-it notes!  I can't live without my sticky notes.  :)
Me Too!  I love those suckers!
What’s your fave?
Cleaning tip? I have allergies, so I've learned to put a little bleach in any wash loads with my bed linens. Bleach is known to kill dust mites and other allergens.
Place for Vacay? Savannah, Georgia.  We try to make a couple of trips to Savannah a year.  It is one of my favorite places.
Food?  Fried green tomatoes.
Beverage? Sweet Iced Tea
Thing to do in amusement park?   I have great memories riding the Tilt-a-Whirl with my sister, brother and cousin when we were kids at each county fair in Indiana.
Coffee or tea?  Both.  I have to have coffee to start my day, but I like sweet tea later.

Thank you so much for taking time for this interview and the amazing giveaway!

Arc Review: How to Look Like You by Rose McClelland

Love is a crazy thing.  You never know where love will pop up. Ella is trying to get into acting until then she's filling in with waiting tables at a bar where she meets the hunky but unavailable Aiden.  Aiden whose girlfriend, Chloe is jealous of Ella and her "big bronzed boobs".
Will Chloe and Ella find the perfect men for them or are the men who are perfect for them already in their lives?
How Distracted Did I Get?
Once picking up How to Look Like You I had a difficult time putting the "book" down.  To be completely honest I wanted to stay home from work to read!  ( I LOVE my job I never want to not go)  Ella is a lovable character who is normal in her dreams, personality and size!  She's a fighter and one tough chick!
While Chloe is a likable character she reminds me of jealous girlfriends of my best friend for most of my life.  Constantly jealous without a reason to be.  However, Chloe is likable in the fact that even though she's beautiful she doesn't see the fact.  She's as insecure as the rest of us and needs to be reassured of her beauty inside and out.
First Thoughts After......
I want more I want to know more about what happens in the lives of Aiden, Chloe, Ella and Simon!
How Many Baskets???
Rose's book How to Look Like You is a look into to ladies lives that are just like any other persons and shows no matter how you look beautiful inside and out we all have insecurities.  This is a definite for your TBR list.
I give How to Look Like You.....
5 Baskets!~
Thanks for stopping by!
