Alec is the prodigal son returning home determined to claim his inheritance restore his land to what it was before his father destroyed it with his greed. He meets Celia after a fight with outlaws on his return home and their chemistry is undeniable.
Celia must distance herself to avoid history repeating itself and causing her to have a broken heart due to the neighboring lands having witch hunts and causing war. Try as she might she can't keep herself away from Alec.
Alec, in the beginning I found a bit exasperating, though I know men behaved a bit crass towards women in the time period the story was written, to ask a lady to be his mistress when he meets her I found appalling. In addition to that Celia giving in to temptation so easily upon the 2nd run in with Alec was quite disappointing. Though they went through battle and Alec and engagement with someone other than Celia their love conquered all. If you enjoy a story about insta-true love, battles and witch trials you would enjoy this story.
